Our Story

Finding Hope was born out of lived experiences in our faith community—moments of pain, honesty, and resilience that revealed just how great the need is for safe spaces around mental health.

In 2020, co-founder Danielle Lair began her own healing journey after leaving an abusive and alcoholic marriage. As she worked through her trauma, she discovered the power of sharing her story—not only for her own recovery, but to help others find courage in theirs. She also came face-to-face with how often the church contributes to the stigma of mental health.

Two years later, our community walked with a staff member through a mental health crisis. That experience opened our eyes to the realities of the mental healthcare system and the unique role faith communities can play in supporting, but not replacing, professional care.

In 2023, the suicide of a beloved community member shook us deeply. Their family’s courage to speak openly about mental health encouraged others to seek help, and our community became a safe place for honest conversations and healing.

Out of these experiences, Finding Hope was created—to bridge the gap between the mental healthcare system and those in need. Since then, we’ve connected people to licensed professionals, provided benevolent funds for treatment, and offered wellness opportunities that reduce stigma and build resilience. In 2025, we are expanding our mission with Mental Health Readiness Training, equipping faith communities to become trauma-informed places of safety, healing, and hope.

Cynthia Pittenger

Cynthia Pittenger

Leadership Team

Cynthia worked as an elementary school counselor and teacher for over 15 years. During those years she worked with many children on a variety of mental health needs along with working with the parents on how to implement positive parenting strategies in the home. After taking a break from working in the schools, Cynthia then pursued further training in ABA Therapy while increasing her role as a volunteer in the schools and church. Cynthia has a personal connection working with children with special needs because her son Tyler is on the Autism Spectrum, and his life journey has inspired her to educate herself and help other families form positive routines and coping strategies in their homes. Cynthia has also volunteered with many roles at Lake Travis Methodist Church, where she and her family have been members for over 20 years. She has served as an Elementary Sunday School Teacher, several committees, and was Leadership Council Chair for three years. She also volunteered as LTUMC Children’s Ministry Leader for two years. Mercedes Alanis

Board Certified Mental Health Coach

Mercedes Alanis was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. My husband’s work brought us to the United States shortly after getting married in 2000, and it became the home where our family grew. Raising our 3 children has been the greatest privilege of my life. With them I learned how a child genuinely thrives when they feel seen and supported. A calm voice, an encouraging word, or a nurturing environment can transform a moment of uncertainty into growth. Throughout my years of being a mom of small children, I became passionately involved in volunteering. Whether it was in school activities, youth programs, team sports or church, I came to firmly believe that at our core we belong to each other and one small action can change the color of someone’s day.
Today my children are all grown up. Besides my work as an assistant preschool teacher, I am honored to be part of Finding Hope Wellness Center as a Board Certified Mental Health Coach. Together with Danielle, I strive to create nurturing environments where people feel supported, valued, and capable. We need communities where individuals do more than just survive, ones that provide unconditional acceptance for those who lost their song along the way. Mercedes offers services in Spanish.
